Many of our clients ask how a wig stays on and will it be secure so lets have a look at how a
wig stays on.

Many clients worry with a gust of wind the wig will be lost. This is not the case.
Wigs are worn by men and women for may different reasons. Wigs are used for people with
thinning hair, hair loss and even just for a change of look.

Before you start to wear your wig, you will need to secure your own hair if you have any.
This can be by braiding the hair or putting it into a bun if it is long. If you have no hair or your
hair is very short this is not so much of an issue.

There are four main ways of securing a wig, we will have a look at them here;

Grips for wigs – A wig grip is a band that is placed over your natural hair. It is closed
at the nape of the neck and this is often with a Velcro attachment. Wig grips are
usually made of one of three materials. Velvet wig grips are soft and adhere to the
skin. They help the wig from slipping or from falling off. Swiss lace is also used for
wig grips, and this is a soft, breathable material which allows the scalp to breathe
but it is also gives a fantastic grip. The third and final material used for wig grips is
velvet elastic which helps the wig grip to be stretchy as well as breathable and at the
same time holds the wig on tight in place.

Wig caps – Wigs have an integrated wig cap in them. When a wig uses mesh to
ensure air can get to the scalp and prevent slipping, it also helps to ensure long hair
is secured away. Nylon is sometimes used for wig caps, and they help the wig to stay
clean, although nylon is not breathable like mesh.

Clips – Some people use clips to help secure their wigs as they help to secure the wig
to the natural hair, and they really do give a secure grip.

Wig adhesive – Wog adhesive is very good for securing wigs if you are not sensitive
to chemicals or irritated by them. Wig tape can also be used also this is double sided
and comes in strips, dots, or rolls.
